Abstract

This article sought to analyze the role of nurses in the application of ozone therapy in the treatment of chronic wounds, considering its inclusion as an integrative practice in the Unified Health System, regulated by the Ministry of Health and professionally supported by the Federal Nursing Council. This is a qualitative literature review conducted in the SciELO, PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS, BDENF, CINAHL, and Google Scholar databases, including publications between 2017 and 2024 in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. Studies were selected that addressed the application of ozone therapy in venous ulcers, pressure injuries, and diabetic wounds, as well as the role of nursing in this context. The results showed that ozone therapy has antimicrobial potential, improves tissue oxygenation, and stimulates granulation tissue formation, contributing as an adjunct therapy to conventional treatment. It was concluded that nurses play a central role in the assessment, indication, and monitoring of therapy, requiring specific training and greater standardization of protocols to strengthen evidence-based practice.
