IMPACTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON ARTISANAL FISHING IN THE SUB-MEDIUM SÃO FRANCISCO: A BIBLIOGRAPHICAL REVIEW

Abstract

Environmental changes impact the planet and represent the most pressing and pressing challenges facing humanity. These changes manifest themselves through phenomena such as increased variations in climate, hydrological systems, and ecosystems, resulting in losses to the maintenance of ecological and evolutionary processes of biodiversity, infrastructure, economic and social activities, and human health. Coastal areas are more vulnerable to these impacts, with direct effects on the economy and daily lives of communities, particularly affecting artisanal fishers. This study aimed to analyze the effects of climate change on artisanal fishing in traditional riverside communities of the Submedio São Francisco River. The study was conducted through bibliographic research. Data was collected from scientific articles, dissertations, and theses related to the topic. The results obtained indicate that artisanal fishing in riverside communities in the Submedio São Francisco has been suffering the impacts of global climate change, mainly changes in the hydrological cycle of the São Francisco River Basin, with prolonged droughts, an increase in the average water temperature, affecting the existing ichthyofauna and, consequently, compromising the survival of artisanal fishing in these areas.
