This study aims to analyze the importance of mandatory annual toxicological testing for military police officers in the Amazonas State Military Police. The topic is relevant because, currently, the test is only required of candidates upon joining the force. Throughout their careers, however, there is no provision for periodic testing of this procedure. Military police officers in the Amazonas State Military Police voluntarily choose to dedicate their lives to protecting society. They are ordinary people, with qualities and limitations, who undergo rigorous training and discipline to perform a highly responsible function. Even so, like any human being, they are subject to errors. However, certain behaviors, such as the use of illicit substances, are incompatible with the police mission, as it is precisely the responsibility of these professionals to prevent and combat such illicit practices. The main objective of this article is to analyze how the periodic performance of toxicological testing should be implemented in order to preserve the physical integrity of police officers and ensure the full performance of their duties in state public security. The study employs a qualitative research method, is exploratory in nature, and presents articles and doctrines. In conclusion, it is found that such a measure is indispensable for institutional improvement, contributing to a more ethical, responsible, and effective performance, as well as to meeting societal expectations and health principles for military police officers.
