This article aims to analyze the impacts of excessive screen use on child development, considering cognitive, emotional, social, and health dimensions. This qualitative study was conducted through a bibliographic review structured according to an adapted case-control study model. A total of 25 sources published between 2001 and 2025 were selected and organized into two groups: studies that identify negative effects associated with screen use (case) and studies that suggest neutral or beneficial effects under certain conditions (control). The results indicate that prolonged use of electronic devices is associated with delays in language development, sleep disorders, behavioral difficulties, reduced social and family interactions, as well as changes in self-esteem and emotional self-regulation. Conversely, when used in moderation, with parental supervision and educational purposes, screen use may offer specific benefits. The analysis highlights the importance of considering contextual factors and family mediation in the use of technology. It is concluded that guidance strategies aimed at parents, educators, and health professionals are essential to mitigate adverse effects and promote healthy, balanced, and conscious child development in an increasingly digital environment.
