This article discusses the benefits of literary reading in early childhood education, highlighting its fundamental role in language development, the formation of reading habits, and the stimulation of critical thinking and imagination. Children’s literature, through symbolic and playful narratives, contributes significantly to the cognitive, affective, and socio-emotional development of children. The text emphasizes the importance of sensitive reading mediation by educators and family members, as well as the creation of welcoming environments rich in literary materials. Effective pedagogical practices for promoting reading and strategies to overcome challenges in its implementation are presented. In addition, the complementary role of family and school in the formation of readers from the earliest years of life is highlighted, reinforcing reading as an instrument of transformation and integral development.
