This work addresses the application of the SWOT matrix as a self-diagnostic and management tool in educational institutions, especially in the private sector. The central question investigated is: how can SWOT analysis contribute to strengthening pedagogical practices and improving the competitiveness of schools in the current educational scenario? The objective is to understand how the identification of strengths, weaknesses, possibilities, and risks can underpin strategic decisions for institutional improvement. The methodology used is bibliographic, with an exploratory approach and qualitative nature. The analysis shows that, given increasing competition and a declining birth rate, it is essential for schools to conduct an external and internal mapping of their reality. The SWOT matrix makes it possible not only to identify the institution's qualities and limitations but also to assess the context in which it is embedded, facilitating pedagogical and administrative planning. Democratic management proves fundamental in this process, promoting dialogue with the school community to detect problems and direct solutions. It can be concluded, albeit partially, that the SWOT matrix is an effective tool to support school administrators in formulating strategies that promote institutional development, improve pedagogical efficiency, and consolidate the school's image in the educational market.
