The COVID-19 pandemic caused profound political, economic, and social transformations on a global scale. In this context, the World Health Organization recommended social distancing as a measure to protect public health. With the suspension of face-to-face classes, the Ministry of Education issued ordinances to ensure the continuity of the academic year through emergency remote teaching. This study aims to discuss the challenges and repercussions faced by public basic education teachers during this period. It is an integrative review with a qualitative and exploratory approach, based on scientific articles from the CAPES, SciELO, and LILACS databases, using content analysis to extract relevant information. The results showed that many teachers lacked adequate training and technical support to conduct online teaching activities, facing difficulties in the use of information and communication technologies. There was a significant work overload, as the domestic environment had to be transformed into a classroom. The situation was more intense for women, who accumulated professional and family responsibilities. An increase in physical and psychological problems among teachers was also observed as a result of changes in their work routine.
