PROFILE OF MANAGERS OF PUBLIC MATERNITY HOSPITALS AND THE ADDRESSING OF OBSTETRIC VIOLENCE

Abstract

Objective: To identify the profile of managers of public maternity hospitals, highlighting elements that may influence the confrontation of obstetric violence.
Methodology: A descriptive study with a qualitative approach, conducted in public maternity hospitals in the municipality of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, involving managers working at different levels of care management. Data were collected through sociodemographic questionnaires and analyzed using simple descriptive statistics, complemented by qualitative interpretation. Results: Thirteen managers participated in the study, mostly cisgender women (92.3%), of mixed race/brown ethnicity (53.8%), and aged between 40 and 49 years (46.2%). Most were nurses (53.8%) with postgraduate specialization (92.3%) and had between two and ten years of management experience. The majority held coordination positions (69.2%).
Conclusion: The findings indicate that the predominantly female composition, age diversity, predominance of nurses of mixed race/brown ethnicity, and variability in length of experience are factors that may both facilitate and limit the implementation of policies and practices aimed at humanized care and the confrontation of obstetric violence.
