Abstract

Distance Education (EaD) has often been mistakenly equated with Remote Learning in recent years, despite being fundamentally different. Unlike Remote Learning, EaD has its own well- established foundations, methods, and techniques. This study examines the role of Artificial Intelligence in Distance Education, focusing on how AI can enhance student-centered learning, meeting their needs and acknowledging their preferences. The core question addressed is: How can AI contribute to promoting student-centered learning in EaD? The research utilized a qualitative approach and a literature review. Additionally, experiential reports on EaD were analyzed to draw connections between theory and practice. The findings highlight the pivotal role of the teacher in distance learning, whose mediation is key to facilitating an engaging and organic learning experience.
