Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder with certain limitations, such as discrimination of social and emotional stimuli, as well as failures to emit responses such as maintaining eye contact with another face, identifying, and understanding facial expressions. This study analyses the literature on the use of technologies and/or software for teaching emotion recognition in facial expressions in ASD, with a view to identifying existing barriers and possibilities for future directions. To this end, a literature review of articles published in journals. The manuscripts were identified by searching the ScienceDirect®, PubMed®, WoS™ and Scopus® databases, which constitute a vast repository of scientific knowledge, bringing together thousands of journals and books covering various areas of knowledge. The most relevant journals were analyzed in order to help this research and understand the scenario regarding the development of teaching methodologies for teaching facial expression recognition in ASD. As well as systematizing the information to characterize the state of the art in the field, the resulting analysis provided guidance on the frequent topics of study and the results already obtained, which can guide and encourage other researchers in initiatives to use the teaching methodologies already presented in the field.
