Abstract

This article analyzes, through a literature review, how digital educational platforms, especially virtual learning environments and learning management systems, influence student engagement and academic performance, considering that the integration of technology changes pedagogical rhythms, mediations, and expectations, while expanding possibilities for monitoring and personalizing the learning process, but may also reinforce traditional instructional practices when use is restricted to repositories and administrative controls, which requires a critical reading of the interaction, monitoring, and feedback mechanisms embedded in platforms, as well as of the indicators adopted to infer participation and academic success.
