This article aims to analyze the impact of depression on the emotional development of children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The methodology used was a literature review based on recent studies addressing both ASD and comorbidities, especially depression, in this population. The search was conducted in scientific databases, selecting articles that discuss the interaction between ASD and depression, focusing on the emotional impacts and psychosocial development of these individuals. In the discussion, the results indicate that depression in children and adolescents with ASD is often underdiagnosed due to the difficulty in identifying typical symptoms, such as sadness or apathy, which may be confused with behaviors associated with autism. The presence of depression worsens social isolation, increases communication difficulties, and negatively affects self-esteem and social skills. Additionally, caregivers—especially mothers—are also emotionally impacted, facing overload, stress, and anxiety, which further aggravate the situation. The findings highlight the need for adapted psychological and educational interventions, focusing both on the child and on providing support to the family. It is concluded that early identification and appropriate treatment of depression in children and adolescents with ASD are essential to promote healthy emotional development and social inclusion. The approach should be multidisciplinary and centered on the particularities of each individual, with coping strategies for families and continuous support.
