THE IMPACT OF THE INTELLIGENT VIDEO SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM ON THE REDUCTION OF VEHICLE ROBBERIES IN THE CITY OF MANAUS

Abstract

The article sought to discuss the effectiveness of the State Public Security and Social Defense Plan of Amazonas (PESPDS) in combating vehicle theft, with a focus on the implementation of the “Intelligent Video Surveillance Perimeter System” (Paredão). The methodology employed included a detailed analysis of historical crime data in the state, comparing vehicle theft rates before and after the implementation of the system. The main results indicate a significant reduction in vehicle theft rates, with a notable 60% decrease in 2023 compared to 2019. The video surveillance system contributed decisively to the recovery of vehicles and the reduction of related crimes, promoting a faster and more effective police response. The use of intelligent cameras and real-time monitoring has played a crucial role in preventing new crimes and identifying vehicles involved in illicit activities. Therefore, the implementation of the “Intelligent Perimeter System” proved to be a successful strategy, standing out as a model of good practice in combating vehicle theft.
