The ethnobotanical use of the medicinal species Melissa officinalis L. for the treatment of anxiety has minimized the symptoms presented by the disease. Anxiety is understood as a reaction that is part of the emotional and physiological state of the human being responsible for alerting, through the organism. With this study as a premise, it describes the ethnobotanical use of the medicinal species Melissa officinalis L., and its therapeutic contribution in the treatment of anxiety. As medicinal species are currently easily accessible, it is necessary to use this traditional knowledge about medicinal plants used in anxiety disorder. The World Health Organization (WHO) in 2002 recognized the importance of the use of medicinal plants used in anxiety disorder. In order to guarantee the countries the proper use of Traditional Medicine and contributing to maintain health and fight diseases. It can be concluded that this study has great popular and scientific importance in guiding the use of the species Melissa officinalis L. in the treatment of anxiety.
