Abstract

mplications, and ensuring early detection of risks. The prenatal consultation conducted by nurses is an essential tool that provides comprehensive and humanized care, therapeutic bonding, and health education. Pregnancy-Specific Hypertensive Disorder (PSHD) presents high morbidity and mortality rates; early diagnosis and blood pressure monitoring are priority actions. Objective: To analyze the complementary therapy strategies used by nurses during first-trimester prenatal care, focusing on the prevention of PSHD in at-risk pregnant women. Methodology: A descriptive bibliographic review with a qualitative approach, based on searches in the Virtual Health Library (VHL), LILACS, MEDLINE, BDENF, and Google Scholar; using the descriptors “nursing,” “prenatal,” “gestational hypertension,” and “complementary therapies.” Full articles in Portuguese (2019 to August 2025) were included, excluding duplicates and unavailable texts. Analysis and discussion of results: The nurse’s role involves educational actions, welcoming, humanization, monitoring, and immediate referrals. Integrative and Complementary Health Practices—such as acupuncture, aromatherapy, auriculotherapy, reflexology, reiki, yoga, and phytotherapy—show effectiveness and safety in reducing blood pressure levels, anxiety, and stress, while improving well-being, self-care, sleep quality, and strengthening the maternal-fetal bond. Institutional recognition within Brazil’s Unified Health System (SUS) and the need for ongoing professional training are highlighted. Conclusion: The integration between nursing care and complementary therapies ensures comprehensive, humanized, and effective assistance in preventing PSHD, with health education, active listening, and the promotion of female empowerment.
