Abstract

This undergraduate thesis focuses on Law and Literature: Femicide in the novel "Gabriela, Clove and Cinnamon" and its impact on the Brazilian legal system. The research is based on an interdisciplinary approach, analyzing how literature can contribute to a critical understanding of social and legal phenomena, especially regarding gender violence and femicide. Jorge Amado's work, published in 1958, offers a symbolic and historical portrait of the patriarchal society of the early 20th century, highlighting values and practices that still resonate in the Brazilian legal system today. The study aims to analyze femicide from the perspective of Law and Literature, using Jorge Amado's novel "Gabriela, Clove and Cinnamon" as a basis, employing the literary narrative as an analytical tool to understand how patriarchal ideology shaped social relations and influenced judicial decisions of the time. The analysis of the work allows for reflection on the role of women, power structures, and the legitimization of violence as a form of male control. The methodology used is based on bibliographic research, with an interdisciplinary focus, highlighting the most relevant authors: Valéria Lamego, Ana Paula Veloso de Araújo, Nadilson Portilho Gomes, and Jorge Amado. It is hoped that this work will contribute to the critical reflection of legal professionals and students, promoting a more sensitive, ethical, and committed perspective on women's rights. Furthermore, it seeks to value literature as a tool for historical and social understanding, capable of enriching legal education through a more humane, critical, and transformative perspective.
