THE BRAZILIAN ELECTORAL PROCESS: A STUDY ON THE IMPACTS OF FAKE NEWS

This article aimed to provide information about the electoral process and the impacts of Fake News, a term of English origin that translates to "false news" in Portuguese. In Brazil, we have a secure and reliable electoral process, which only became possible after many demonstrations and laws created to ensure this. However, this process has suffered a strong attack, namely, Fake News. Therefore, what are the impacts of Fake News on an electoral process? This study has the general objective of analyzing the impacts generated by Fake News, such as disinformation, slander, defamation, and erroneous electoral results. Its specific objectives are to contextualize the Brazilian electoral process, analyze the impacts of Fake News production at the national level, and present efficient and effective solutions to combat fake news. The methodology used for the research was a qualitative bibliographic and documentary approach, carried out through research in books, articles, laws, jurisprudence, websites, and Google Scholar. The research findings are based on a study of the impacts on the electoral process, aiming to understand its scale and find ways to correct the damage caused. This is important for everyone who has the right to vote and participate in elections, with the goal of punishing those who spread fake news.
