COMPARISON BETWEEN DIFFERENT MATERIALS USED IN DENTAL IMPLANTS AND THEIR SUCCESS RATES

Abstract

The present study presents a literature review on the comparison between different materials used in dental implants, focusing on the success rates associated with these materials. The research examines titanium implants, traditionally used due to their biocompatibility and mechanical resistance, and zirconia implants, a more recent alternative with aesthetic advantages, especially for the anterior region of the oral cavity. The review addresses osseointegration, mechanical properties and limitations of each material, also considering technological advances that have expanded therapeutic options. Although titanium continues to be the most used and widely studied material, results indicate that zirconia also has high success rates, with significant aesthetic advantages. The choice of material for dental implants depends on factors such as the patient's aesthetic needs, location of the implant and bone health, as well as surgical technique and post-operative care. The study concludes that, despite the aesthetic advantages of zirconia, titanium remains the reference material, but the advancement of biomaterials could allow, in the future, new therapeutic alternatives with better properties for long-term clinical success.
