Kangaroo Method is a type of neonatal care that involves early skin-to-skin contact between the mother and the low birth weight newborn, increasingly and for as long as both consider it pleasurable and sufficient, thus allowing greater participation of parents in the attention of their newborn. A qualified nursing team is needed to guide the mother and family at all stages of the method for this to happen effectively. From this perspective, the study compares the knowledge of the nursing staff about the Kangaroo Method with the literature, to understand the perception of interviews on the subject. The research was designed by a descriptive, exploratory study with a qualitative approach, in which data collection took place in the Hospital Materno Infantil de Brasília, during the first semester of 2021. From this, it was concluded that the nursing team had general knowledge, however, some aspects do not match the parameters presented by national studies.
