Abstract

This article analyzes the project “Breaking the Silence: Promoting Citizenship”, an initiative aimed at fostering the social and educational inclusion of deaf individuals through the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras). The proposal seeks to eliminate communication barriers and strengthen the exercise of citizenship while valuing Deaf culture and identity. Based on a qualitative and participatory approach, the study reflects on the importance of Libras as an instrument of equity, respect for diversity, and the realization of human rights. By articulating theory and practice, the project reaffirms inclusive education as a path toward building a more just, accessible, and democratic society.
