The number of people living with obesity, both adults and children, has been progressively increasing and this condition is a major risk factor for a series of acute and chronic diseases, modifying people's morbidity and mortality. In recent years, several drugs have been launched with the aim of glycemic control and weight loss effects, and Tirzepatide is the most recent drug launched for this purpose. The objective of this literature review was to evaluate the weight loss promoted through the use of Tirzepatide. For this purpose, a search for previous studies was carried out on the Pubmed and Regional Portal of the Virtual Health Library and a total of 26 articles were selected after applying inclusion criteria, based on controlled clinical trials and articles published in the last 10 years (2014-2024), and exclusion criteria, in which duplicate articles and articles that did not meet the inclusion criteria were excluded. After analyzing the studies, it was observed that Tirzepatide is a drug that promotes greater weight loss than other drugs used for the same purpose, which is the treatment of diabetes. And the higher the dose used, the greater the weight loss, reaching losses greater than 15% of the weight initially studied. Another benefit of the medication reported by users is that it promotes appetite suppression, controlling desire and reducing binge eating. However, Tirzepatide presented adverse effects of a gastrointestinal nature, such as nausea, diarrhea or vomiting in 2 to 24% of users. In conclusion, Tirzepatide emerges as a new tool in weight control and in combating obesity, through a medicinal technique and becoming another option for weight loss before a more drastic intervention, such as bariatric surgery.
