This paper aims to analyze the barriers faced by women victims of domestic violence when attempting to access justice and obtain legal protection, focusing on institutional, economic, social, cultural, and psychological challenges. The study examines the impact of the Maria da Penha Law, including recent legislative updates, and evaluates its effectiveness in addressing these barriers. Through a critical analysis, the research reveals that despite legislative progress, significant obstacles persist that hinder the effective implementation of protective measures and the breaking of the cycle of violence. The paper highlights the interdependence between domestic violence and gender inequality, proposing the creation of more integrated and effective public policies to support victims. The research concludes that, for more effective tackling of domestic violence, coordinated efforts are required between the state, civil society, and support networks, with an emphasis on women’s financial autonomy and strengthening the judicial system.
