This scientific article aims to analyze the importance of knowledge of traffic legislation in the performance of operational activities of the military police officers of the State of Paraná, constituting a topic of notorious relevance and significant impact within the military academic field. Such relevance arises from the fact that the duties inherent to the military police function often intersect with situations involving traffic and compliance with the rules established in specific legislation. In this context, the general objective of the study is to examine the importance of mastering traffic legislation in the daily activities of military police officers, as well as to assess whether the knowledge currently held by the corporation’s professionals is sufficient to effectively meet society’s demands regarding road safety. The research adopts a theoretical and technical approach, focused on the analysis of the rules contained in the Brazilian legal framework related to traffic. From this, the study sought to identify the main areas of legal and regulatory knowledge that should be part of the training of military police officers, covering both enlisted personnel and officers. The results show that, in addition to the typical functions of ostensive policing, it is essential for military police officers to have in-depth knowledge of traffic legislation, not only during their initial training process but also throughout their careers. Such mastery contributes to adequate technical preparation and to the effectiveness of police action in promoting public order and road safety, in line with the expectations of Paraná society.
