The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in criminal investigation has gained prominence as a powerful tool to assist in solving crimes through the analysis of large volumes of data, facial recognition, behavior prediction, and automation of investigative processes. With increasingly sophisticated algorithms, AI has proven capable of increasing the efficiency of investigations, reducing response times, and identifying patterns that might otherwise go unnoticed by the human eye. However, its adoption also raises important ethical and legal debates, such as the violation of fundamental rights, algorithmic bias, and the limits of technological intervention in criminal proceedings. Given this reality, this study aims to analyze the role of artificial intelligence as an auxiliary tool in criminal investigation, considering its practical, legal, and ethical impacts. It was based on a literature review, including scientific articles, books, journals, and current legislation on the topic. Data collection was conducted using databases such as Scielo, Google Scholar, and others, from 2020 to 2025. The results demonstrated that the indiscriminate use of AI can compromise fundamental rights, such as the right to privacy and due process. Furthermore, the lack of specific regulations in Brazil can lead to abuse and legal uncertainty in the use of AI-based investigative technologies. Despite this, however, artificial intelligence can significantly increase the effectiveness of criminal investigations, optimizing the time and resources of the judicial police.
