The school is considered a knowledge-forming unit, with the main objective of forming critical and reflective students in the teaching and learning process. From this perspective, the practice of reading and writing is an integral part of the student's development, since the act of reading provides the learner with the skills and abilities necessary for life in society. Therefore, this study aims to discuss the intellectual capacity that students demonstrate in writing a persuasive essay, both in the classroom and in the ENEM (Brazilian National High School Exam), with confidence and, above all, knowledge of the textual patterns studied in the Portuguese language. In short, the study sought to clearly highlight the importance of writing practice so that students can write a text with confidence in what they are writing. Thus, the teacher, as a mediator of knowledge, is responsible for accompanying them in this learning process and showing the importance of prioritizing work with reading in the classroom, given its importance in the development of the skills and abilities of the individuals involved.
