This article aims to analyze the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) and its relationship with the current Brazilian curriculum. The BNCC is a normative document that defines the learning rights and objectives that all students should achieve throughout Basic Education. The study seeks to understand the importance of the BNCC in building a more coherent national curriculum aligned with students’ needs and the demands of the 21st century. The research was conducted through a bibliographic review and document analysis, based on educational legislation and official documents. Contributions from scholars and case studies of schools that have already implemented the BNCC were also considered. The results indicate that the BNCC is an essential tool for promoting quality and equity in Brazilian education. It is concluded that it has the potential to foster a more inclusive and contextualized education, preparing students for contemporary challenges. However, challenges remain, such as adequate teacher training, improvement of school infrastructure, and coordination among educational systems to ensure effective BNCC implementation.
