FORENSIC MEDICINE AND MEDICAL EXPERTISE: A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW

Introduction: This research addresses a highly relevant topic, describing forensic medicine and medical expertise and their characteristics that are essential for technical and scientific support, clarifying the truth about the situations that correspond to them, the application of medical knowledge in the interpretation of situations in which they are of legal interest, and in this case, medical expertise provides technical analyses to clarify events that involve the health and physical and mental integrity of individuals. Objective: to discuss the importance and relationship between forensic medicine and medical expertise, and their judicial and extrajudicial contributions. Methods: The method applied to carry out this study is a systematic literature review, in which the author, through research and study based on articles, medical journals and other periodicals taken from the Scielo, CAPES, BVS and Pubmed databases, with the application of descriptors, presented his perception on the subject. Results: The study explored the main aspects and techniques used in forensic practice, such as assessment of injuries, determination of the cause of death and analysis of medical documents, in addition to presenting the legislation that regulates the work of experts. Conclusion: It was concluded that the qualified work of medical experts is essential to ensure a fair and effective justice system, in addition to constant improvement in the area, which is essential to meet the increasing complexity of legal cases.
