The Pediatric Prenatal Consultation (CPPN) represents the first contact between the family and the pediatrician and is an essential component of comprehensive care for the pregnant woman and the newborn. This review article analyzed the literature and the guidelines of the Sociedade Brasileira de Pediatria (SBP), which establishes it as one of the pillars for reducing neonatal morbidity and mortality. The main goal of the CPPN is to provide welcoming support, offering personalized and safe information and promoting the anticipation and mitigation of risks. Evidence shows that CPPN contributes to the reduction of neonatal disease occurrence and mortality through mechanisms such as the early identification of risk factors, a significant increase in exclusive breastfeeding rates, and improved adherence to well-child care and vaccination. Furthermore, establishing a bond with the professional before birth is a fundamental benefit, enhancing parental self-efficacy and reducing family anxiety. Despite its proven effectiveness and high cost-effectiveness potential, CPPN faces significant structural barriers in Brazil. The lack of formal institutionalization and remuneration within the public (SUS) and supplementary health systems is the main obstacle to its universalization. It is concluded that CPPN is a fundamental public health strategy, and its effective integration requires policies that recognize its high predictive and preventive value.
