This article discusses the importance of the Military Police in the context of Brazilian public security, analyzing its preventive, repressive, and social functions from an interdisciplinary perspective. The main objective was to discuss the role of the Military Police in public security, considering its preventive, repressive and social functions. The research is qualitative, descriptive, and based on a literature review, using publications indexed in the SciELO and Google Scholar databases between 2015 and 2025. The results indicate that, although there have been advances in community policing practices and preventive actions in school environments, militarized models, abusive practices, and high levels of stress among professionals still prevail. It is concluded that transforming the Military Police requires valuing human rights, reformulating training processes, and integrating with public policies committed to citizenship and human dignity.
