This article analyzes the importance of play in early childhood education, highlighting its role in the cognitive, psychomotor, social, and emotional development of children. Based on a literature review grounded in Vygotsky (1998; 2008), Zilma Ramos de Oliveira (2002), and official documents—the Federal Constitution (1988), LDB (1996), RCNEI (1998), and BNCC (2017)—play is discussed as a language, a right, and an essential pedagogical practice. The results indicate that playfulness, when planned and mediated by the teacher, fosters meaningful learning, stimulates creativity, and strengthens children's autonomy. It concludes that play is indispensable in early childhood and should be valued in daily school and family life.
