The present study aims to present contrasting and complementary models for addressing contemporary challenges in education, in an attempt to provide new means of educational practices and perspectives capable of encompassing a phenomenon as complex as the teaching-learning process and its context in light of contemporary etiological demands arising from the transformations that have occurred in society over time. The changes in behavioral and social patterns, along with the incorporation of new modes and cultural practices that together result in effective transformations in the ways of teaching and learning, require modifications in educational standards and new qualified educational practices to meet emerging demands and provide functional responses. The exploration and exposition of this theme are necessary and fundamental, given the accumulated transformations over time and the new demands of society in this context. To address the issue, a systematic literature review was used in the search for answers and the presentation of the debated topic.
