Abstract

Given the responsibilities imposed by the profession, the importance of the pharmacist actively participating in health promotion is clear. WHO defines self-medication as the practice of taking medication without the guidance of a doctor or pharmacist. The practice of self-medication can have harmful consequences for the body. To build this work, a literature review method was used, describing materials collected through the following databases: SciELO – Scientific Electronic Library, Academic Google, legislation, dissertations, Ministry of Health (MS) dating from 2000 to 2021. The objective of this work is to promote the rational use of medicines, through pharmaceutical performance in self-medication.
