This study analyzes the transformation of the cocoa production chain in Brazil, focusing on the sustainable initiatives implemented to overcome historical and structural challenges. Cocoa, essential to the Brazilian economy and particularly relevant in southern Bahia, has faced crises such as the witches’ broom disease and fluctuations in global prices, highlighting economic, social, and environmental vulnerabilities. In response, innovative practices such as agroforestry systems (AFS), fine cocoa production, and origin certifications have been implemented to reposition the sector in the global market and promote sustainability. Based on a literature review, the research aims to identify the most effective initiatives for the sustainability of the cocoa value chain, analyzing productive practices, certifications, and strategies that contribute to sustainable development. The analysis explores the economic and productive transformations in the cocoa sector and their implications for competitiveness and resilience. The study provides a comprehensive overview of the initiatives implemented in the sector and their contributions to sustainable development, highlighting the progress made and the challenges that remain. In this way, the study seeks to contribute to strengthening the cocoa production chain in Brazil by promoting more efficient and sustainable practices that establish the country as a reference in the global market.
