This study describes a case report of anal atresia in a male calf, a congenital malformation defined as a structural defect present at birth resulting from abnormal embryonic development, characterized by the absence of an anal opening, which compromises intestinal transit and may lead to the animal’s death if not treated promptly. The objective was to report the clinical diagnosis and the surgical procedure performed. The clinical care included anamnesis, physical examination, and confirmation of the anomaly, followed by surgical intervention for the creation of a neo-anus, using absorbable and nylon sutures to fix the mucosa to the skin. In the postoperative period, the animal received systemic antibiotic therapy, topical healing ointment, and hygienic-sanitary care. During the following 41 days, a satisfactory clinical evolution was observed, with no significant complications, and with gradual recovery of well-being and weight gain. This report demonstrates that anal atresia, when diagnosed early and treated with appropriate techniques, presents a good prognosis, highlighting the importance of thorough clinical examinations and humanized care in the management of newborn calves.
