Childbirth, as a physiological and social process, represents a milestone in a woman’s life and requires care that goes beyond technical aspects, also valuing respect and autonomy. In Brazil, the high rates of cesarean sections highlight excessive medicalization, reinforcing the importance of humanized childbirth, in which nursing plays a central role. This study aimed to analyze nursing care for women during humanized childbirth, identifying practices that ensure safe and respectful care. An integrative literature review was conducted in the LILACS and BDENF databases, using the descriptors “childbirth,” “humanized,” and “nursing,” covering articles published in Portuguese between 2020 and 2025. A total of 17 studies were selected, which emphasized the relevance of nursing in providing non-pharmacological pain relief methods, active listening, welcoming care, and encouragement of female protagonism. Advances such as the creation of Normal Birth Centers and public policies like PHPN and the Alyne Network were also highlighted. However, challenges remain, including resistance from part of the medical community, the persistence of outdated practices, and inequalities in access. It is concluded that nursing is essential to consolidating the humanized childbirth model, as it helps reduce unnecessary interventions, strengthens women’s autonomy, and ensures comprehensive care, despite the structural and cultural barriers that still need to be overcome.
