This article investigated the consequences and prevention strategies for Burnout Syndrome in nurses working in Intensive Care Units, highlighting the growing impact of occupational stress and the high prevalence of the syndrome, as well as the need for interventions aimed at caring for the mental health of these professionals. This integrative literature review was conducted between May and September 2025, with studies selected from PubMed, LILACS, BVS, SCIELO, and BDENF databases, considering articles published in the last five years, in Portuguese, with free access, and focused on nursing. The results indicate that the syndrome manifests primarily as emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and impaired quality of care, associated with work overload, low professional appreciation, and inadequate work environments. The research is expected to contribute to the identification of triggering factors, their consequences, and possible prevention strategies, reinforcing the importance of adopting actions at both the individual and institutional levels.
