Abstract

This article aims to discuss the historical evolution of Institutional Reception in the country, starting with the era of colonialism, a period in which the State left the responsibility for the care and assistance to abandoned children to the Catholic Church through the circle of excluded people. Subsequently, an analysis is made of the Imperial Period, Republic, until the advent of the Federal Constitution, when the State assumes its role, and starts to have a more attentive and careful look at the most disadvantaged class of the population. To achieve the purpose of this article, a review of psychoanalytic literature was carried out on the following topics: reception, institution and situations of vulnerability. Therefore, different types of documents were used, such as: expanded abstracts, books, articles, theses and dissertations. The discussions provided a sample of the historical reality of institutional care in Brazil. It is concluded from this work that the presence of the State, which was previously omitted, becomes more present and assumes its responsibility in guaranteeing reception and meeting the most basic needs of the most needy population.
