This article aims to establish the relationships between scientific theories about autism and the daily life of a family with a child with autism. It sheds light on what autism is, its diagnosis, intervention, limits, and potential. It seeks to understand how diagnosis and intervention occur, highlighting brain plasticity and its relationship with autism, identifying how families receive and deal with news about the disorder, mentioning changes in the family routine, investigating the school context regarding the inclusion of children with autism, describing the child's main limits and potential, and, finally, establishing the convergences and divergences between these theories and the daily life of families with autism. A qualitative approach to the topic was adopted, through a case study, through a semi-structured interview with the mother of a child diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
