Abstract

Introduction: Vulvodynia is a complex condition characterized by pain in the vulvar region, persistent for at least three months and without apparent cause. It may be due to infections, dermatitis, or other diseases. Physical therapy stands out as a crucial tool due to its ability to address the multifactorial factors associated with vulvodynia. This condition has no single cause, often involving pelvic muscle dysfunction, hypertonicity, and biomechanical alterations. Objective: The overall objective of this research is to analyze the effectiveness of physical therapy as a therapeutic modality in the treatment of vulvodynia. Methodology: This is a literature review, where the search for articles was carried out through a systematic bibliographic survey in the electronic databases Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), PubMed (U.S. National Library of Medicine) and Virtual Health Library (VHL), published between 2015 and 2025. Results: The initial search was carried out in the SciELO, PubMed, and VHL databases, totaling 72 articles found. At the end of this selection process, 07 articles published between 2016 and 2025 were incorporated into the review. Conclusion: Based on the information observed, it is concluded that pelvic physiotherapy represents an effective intervention in the treatment of vulvodynia, especially for its ability to act directly on pain modulation and rehabilitation of pelvic floor muscle function.
