This research analyzes digital citizenship as a fundamental formative dimension within the school environment, considering the risks and responsibilities involved in students’ use of technology. Based on a qualitative approach and literature review, the study explores how schools can foster ethical coexistence in digital networks, critical use of information, and student protagonism in online contexts. The discussion addresses vulnerabilities such as cyberbullying, misinformation, and data exposure, while also highlighting pedagogical strategies to develop collective digital competencies. The findings indicate that digital citizenship, when approached transversally, enhances empathy, critical reflection, and responsible expression. It concludes that schools must embrace digital culture mediation as an essential component of student development.
