This study investigated the advantages, disadvantages, and ethical challenges of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in distance learning courses, focusing on issues related to students' data privacy, surveillance, and the dehumanization of the educational process. The main objective was to analyze the impacts of this technology on distance education, considering its ethical and educational implications. The research was bibliographical in nature, based on a literature review on the subject. The development addressed the benefits of AI, such as personalized learning and task automation, while also highlighting disadvantages such as knowledge fragmentation and reduced human interaction. Ethical risks related to privacy, excessive surveillance, and dehumanization of teaching were also discussed. In the final considerations, it was concluded that while AI brings significant benefits to distance education, its implementation must be balanced and responsible, respecting students' rights and preserving the human dimension of teaching. The research highlighted the need for further studies on the long-term impacts and teacher training for the ethical use of these technologies.
