Abstract

This article analyzed how community libraries contribute to social inclusion and the reduction of inequalities in vulnerable regions of Brazil. Characterized by their inclusive and participatory nature, these libraries offer access to reading, information, cultural activities, and literacy practices. The methodology was exploratory in nature, with a mixed approach, through bibliographic review and analysis of case studies. The main findings indicated that community libraries are spaces of cultural resistance and promote citizenship, autonomy, and the educational, cultural, and social development of their users, especially among children, youth, and marginalized groups. The study identified significant challenges such as lack of resources, dependence on volunteer work, and absence of government support. It concludes that community libraries represent powerful tools for inclusion and demand more support from public policies to sustain and expand their positive impact.
