This article explores how transgenerational behavior, that is, patterns of behavior transmitted from generation to generation, influences the mental health of family members. The research seeks to identify how these patterns can contribute to the development of psychological disorders, such as depression, anxiety and personality disorders, and highlights the importance of interventions that help break harmful cycles, promoting family well-being. The methodology used is qualitative, with an integrative review of recent studies on transgenerational behavior, mental health, family structure and psychology covering publications from the last five years in the LILACS, CAPES and PePSIC databases. The study shows that family behavioral patterns transmitted between generations can protect or harm mental health. Dysfunctional dynamics, such as avoiding conflict, increase the risk of disorders, while emotional support and open communication strengthen resilience. The work suggests interventions to break these harmful cycles, creating healthier family environments and preventing psychological problems. The research confirms that transgenerational behavior influences family mental health and that understanding these dynamics allows us to create interventions that break harmful cycles and promote resilience. Therapeutic strategies aimed at modifying dysfunctional patterns are promising for family well-being, reinforcing the importance of mental health policies that consider the family context.
