Abstract

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic had a profound impact on various aspects of society, particularly mental health. Social isolation, fear of the disease, and economic uncertainties led to a significant increase in the number of mental disorder cases. Studies have shown that, after the pandemic, there was an intensification in the diagnosis of psychological disorders such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Objective: This study aims to analyze the post-pandemic impact on the increase in mental disorder diagnoses, identifying the main causes and discussing possible solutions to address this reality. Methodology: The research was conducted through a literature review, analyzing scientific articles and public health institution reports on the increase of mental disorders during and after the pandemic. Data from studies conducted between 2020 and 2023 were analyzed, focusing on identifying diagnostic patterns and variables influencing this increase. Discussion: The results indicate that the pandemic accelerated a series of mental health issues, exacerbating pre-existing conditions and creating new pathologies due to prolonged stress. The lack of psychological support, disruption of treatments, and emotional overload were factors that directly contributed to the rise in diagnoses of disorders such as anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorders. Additionally, the social stigma surrounding seeking psychological help remains a significant barrier, hindering proper treatment for many individuals. Conclusion: The increase in mental disorder diagnoses after the pandemic reflects the emotional and psychological consequences of the period. Society needs to invest in public policies that promote mental health, expand access to psychological treatments, and work on deconstructing the stigma related to psychological care. Strengthening the support network and increasing awareness are essential steps for recovery and prevention of new cases.
