This article aims to present a study on how financial education is vitally important in the development of students, right from the early school years, as it enables them to make conscious and responsible economic decisions over the years, the impacts of which will influence their adult lives. Lack of knowledge about finance can result in difficulties in managing resources and investing early. This article analyzes the relevance of financial education in the academic context, highlighting its impacts and planning strategies for its effective implementation. The research is based on the theoretical contributions of Santos (2021) and Silva (2022), as well as the reflections of Housel (2020), Amuri (2022) and Chiavenato (2021), who address financial management, economic behavior and financial planning. The study highlights the need to include financial education in the school and university environment, ensuring that students acquire healthy money management habits. Understanding debt and its causes is essential for personal financial health and for the economy as a whole. In view of this, the question that prompted this study arose: what are the main causes of default in Brazil? Bibliographical and documentary research was then carried out to describe these causes, understand how beliefs can influence the spread of the problem and present possible solutions. This is an explanatory approach, bringing concepts and solutions to the subject. The information obtained shows that the problem is related to a lack of financial education, an area that is not given due attention in the family, school and academic training of citizens. The conclusions presented explain the importance of this branch of education for debt management and good economic functioning.
