Abstract

This article sought to discuss the impacts that excessive social media use causes on students' mental health and understand its influence on the learning process, and fill the gaps in the literature related to the positive and negative impacts that social networks cause on students' lives. The work was conducted by the questionnaire applied to 64 male and female students of the Namibe Polytechnic High School "Pascoal Luvualu", and the social networks used by these students are tik tok; facebook; instagram; telegram, twitter; youtube; pinterest; snapchat; spotfy and treads and it was possible to observe that the negative impacts that excessive use causes to students are anxiety, distraction, sedentary lifestyle, academic performance, etc., and the positive impacts are the possibility of learning about various multidisciplinary issues, interacting with teachers and colleagues even when away from the school institution and assistance in understanding school content.
