Interpersonal violence, especially against women and children, is a public health problem that often leaves visible marks in the orofacial region. The dentist, by working directly in this area, plays a strategic role in the early identification of such cases. This study aimed to discuss the role of the dentist in the detection of orofacial injuries resulting from interpersonal violence, focusing on its ethical, legal and social implications.analyze the role of the dentist in detecting orofacial lesions resulting from interpersonal violence, focusing on the ethical, legal, and social implications of this practice. This is an integrative literature review, conducted using PubMed and Embase databases, including original articles published between 2019 and 2024. Ten studies were selected, which addressed the role of the dentist in identifying, reporting, and managing traumatic lesions associated with violence. The results showed that orofacial injuries are often the first or only visible sign of aggression, and dental care may be a unique opportunity to break cycles of violence. The studies also highlighted weaknesses in the ethical, technical, and emotional training of professionals, reinforcing the need for ongoing education and a trauma-sensitive approach. Thus, the dental surgeon is a key player in the protection network and must act with sensitivity, ethics and commitment to mandatory reporting in order to guarantee comprehensive care for victims of interpersonal violence.
