The general objective of the research is to demonstrate how the victim of sexual crimes assumes a prominent role in clarifying these offenses. Among the specific objectives are: to analyze the role of the victim in criminal proceedings; to present the general aspects of crimes against sexual dignity and their main repercussions; to discuss the importance of the victim's statement as evidence and an instrument for clarifying the facts; and to address victimization in light of the new victimological era in criminology. The methodology adopted was bibliographic research, based on doctrine, legislation, and relevant case law on the subject. The central problem is: can the victim's statement in sexual crimes be considered as a protagonist in clarifying the facts? The main authors used were Lopes (2015), Nucci (2014), Saibro (2016), and Shecaria (2018). It is concluded that, currently, the victim's statement plays an essential and leading role in the investigation of sexual crimes.
