Abstract

"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere," warned Martin Luther King Jr., in an expression that has stood the test of time and reverberated powerfully in contemporary debates on rights, public policies and professional practices. This philosophical maxim not only inspires, but also guides the essence of this work that I am now presenting: “Professional Intervention, Social Justice and the Guarantee of Rights”.

This book was created as a symbolic and epistemological landmark, where Social Service and Law meet and intertwine, forming a solid fabric of knowledge and practices committed to social transformation. By bringing together these two fundamental areas of the defense of human rights, the work consolidates itself as an invaluable contribution to the contemporary debate on the realization of rights, the promotion of equity and the strengthening of professional practices.

Each chapter in this collection is a living expression of the ethical and political commitment of professionals in Social Services and Law, reaffirming the transformative power of intervention practices in the face of social inequalities and systematic violations of rights that still plague our society.

The publication of this work is therefore a reason for special celebration, as it marks the fruitful partnership between Revista REASE and the 3rd edition of the Coletânea Equidade Profissionais Brasil, strengthening institutional and academic ties in favor of a more just, supportive and emancipated society.

And so, under the philosophical inspiration that no justice is complete while there is a single injustice tolerated, we begin the presentation of this collection that seeks, more than informing, to provoke deep reflections and promote transformative actions.

This book, composed of 5 (five) chapters, expresses not only the ethical and political commitment of social workers and lawyers, but also reaffirms the transformative power of intervention practices in the face of social inequalities and rights violations that still plague our society. Its publication is a reason for special celebration, as it marks the partnership between Revista REASE in the publication of the 3rd edition of the Equidade Profissionais Brasil Collection, strengthening institutional and academic ties in favor of a more just and supportive society.

The first chapter, “Ethical-Political Challenges of Social Worker Intervention in CAPS”, invites us to reflect on the tensions and possibilities of professional practice in the field of mental health, especially in the context of Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPS). This highlights the commitment to the uncompromising defense of users' rights and the overcoming of the asylum model, in line with the Brazilian Psychiatric Reform.

In the second chapter, “Between Listening and Action: Social Service Actions in the Face of Domestic Violence”, the authors discuss the centrality of qualified listening as a technical-operational instrument of Social Service, highlighting the confrontation of domestic violence as a complex and challenging demand, which requires intersectoral coordination and ethical sensitivity.

The third chapter, “Social Worker Actions in the Face of Sexual Violence Against Children and Adolescents: Public Policies, Professional Challenges and Protection Strategies”, addresses one of the most serious human rights violations, treating with analytical rigor and sensitivity the importance of professional action in the comprehensive protection of children and adolescents, highlighting public policies, challenges and strategies that guide this intervention.

The fourth chapter, “The Role of Social Services in Preventing School Dropout in Basic Education”, addresses a fundamental theme for strengthening the right to education, discussing the multiple causes of school dropout and the role of social workers in formulating and implementing strategies that aim to ensure students’ continued attendance and success in school, an essential element in promoting full citizenship.

Finally, the fifth chapter, “The Judicialization of Health in Maceió: High-Cost Medications and Decision-Making Criteria”, examines a contemporary phenomenon that strains the boundaries between the right to health and public management, critically addressing the implications of judicialization in access to high-cost medications and the challenges that permeate the decision-making criteria adopted.

This collection, therefore, emerges as a space for interdisciplinary and interinstitutional dialogue, combining scientific rigor and social commitment, reaffirming that Social Service, together with Law, is, above all, a profession committed to social justice, the uncompromising defense of human rights and the fight for an emancipated society.

We thus toast not only the excellence of the texts gathered here, but also the strength of the collective that sustains and drives this production. The partnership with Revista REASE, in this 3rd edition of the Equidade Profissionais Brasil Collection, symbolizes the power of collaborative networks that transcend regional and institutional borders, promoting the circulation of knowledge and the appreciation of professional practices.

May this work inspire professionals, researchers, students and managers to continue in the daily defense of rights, in the resistance against inequalities and in the construction of intervention practices that effectively promote social justice.

May it be read, reread and, above all, put into practice.

Congratulations to the organizer, authors and partners who made this invaluable contribution to Social Service, Law and Brazilian society possible.

Greetings from the academic, social and legal fields!
