This study consists of a literature review aimed at investigating the impacts of orthognathic surgery on patients' quality of life. The research addresses not only the functional and aesthetic aspects promoted by the intervention, but also the psychological and psychosocial factors involved, seeking to understand whether significant improvements occur after the procedure. The study aims to broaden the understanding of the benefits of the surgery not only from the perspective of healthcare professionals, but also from the patient’s point of view, considering motivations such as self-esteem, social perception of facial aesthetics, and the influence of societal expectations on the decision to undergo surgery. In addition to the benefits, the risks and potential complications inherent to the procedure are also discussed, highlighting the importance of psychological preparation and informed consent. The relevance of emotional support and a humanized approach is emphasized as an essential part of the therapeutic process, contributing to a clinical practice that is more responsive to the subjective needs of patients.
